Every great business needs someone who keeps the wheels turning – and at Genus, that’s Janet Martin, our Office Manager. With years of experience in logistics, Janet brings both expertise and energy to the team.

A background in logistics

Janet spent several years working in logistics at Dachser before moving into a completely different role, in sales, at Innovative Technology in Oldham.

“IT was a fascinating company – very different from logistics,” she says. “Unfortunately, I had to leave, but it gave me a whole new perspective that I can carry with me.”

Janet is now back in the logistics world at Genus and is firmly settled into her role.

First impressions

Janet’s first impression of working at Genus is simple: “Everybody’s very nice. We all work together as a team, which is pretty good. I feel like it’s a really good company to work for.”

And while the work is busy, there’s always room for laughter:

“Every day someone makes me laugh. I think it’s important to have that at work. We have a bit of banter, and it gives you time to take your eyes off the screen for a little while.”

A day in the life

So what does an Office Manager at Genus actually do?

For Janet, every day starts with tackling the inbox: “There’s quite a lot of emails,” she laughs. “I go through them first thing, chase ETAs and deliveries, organise loads, request rates, run reports, and make sure our system is updated with any missing information.”

She is also in the process of learning more about the way Genus works, and how to improve the processes we have around managing recycled stock.

Outside of work

When the laptop is shut, Janet loves a good book – in particular crime novels by Martina Cole and Kimberley Chambers – she also likes going out walking with her dog when she gets the chance.
