At Genus, our strength lies in the mix of experience and fresh perspectives across the team – and Logistics Administrator Stephan Vermeulen brings both in spades. From Rotterdam to Dubai to Bury, his career has been nothing short of global.

Stephan Vermeulen

From Rotterdam to Dubai – and beyond

Born and raised in Rotterdam, Stephan spent 12 years working in one-way container logistics before a bold move took him to Dubai in 2008. Over the next five years, he was part of multiple start-ups, helping businesses scale from ideas into fully fledged operations.

“I worked on all sorts. Retail – selling items like watches and jewellery. Food delivery services – we grew to a fleet of 1,000 motorbikes! Waste management – we set up ‘Smart Bins’ (for plastic) through out the whole of the UAE.”

In 2020, Stephan relocated to the UK with his wife and son, settling in Bury. “My son wanted to pursue his A Levels, so we made the move. The bright lights of the UK – and family life – felt like the right next chapter.”

Day to day at Genus

Stephan now runs operations for Genus’ deliveries – a role that requires precision and adaptability.

“My job is to make sure documentation is in order, suppliers are informed of ETAs, and any issues are resolved quickly. If something needs rebooking, I handle it.”

First impressions

Stephan’s first impression of Genus was one of drive and ambition:
“It’s a company with real potential for growth. You can see the passion in the team – they don’t shy away from responsibilities, and that’s what will make Genus successful. I’m grateful to be a part of that.”

The Genus difference

When asked what makes Genus stand out, Stephan doesn’t hesitate:
“We’re on the ball. Communication is short and direct – people know exactly who to reach out to. That means quick solutions, friendly service, adaptability, and transparency. It’s a culture that works.”

Life outside of work

At the weekend, Stephan enjoys family time. He laughs when describing his son:
“He’s 6 foot 3 – a gentle giant! He’s studying Sociology, Biology, and Chemistry for his A Levels and wants to be a forensic psychologist. He also goes boxing four times a week and competes in matches, so there’s plenty of energy in the house.”
When friends visit from Abu Dhabi, the family often heads into the city for dinners and catch-ups.

As a self-proclaimed foodie, Stephan has a particular love for Indian and Thai cuisine – and a good lager on the side.

Words to live by

Stephan’s life advice is simple but powerful:
“Be happy with what you have, value the people around you and don’t chase things that don’t exist.”

We couldn’t agree more Stephan!
